Rodrigo Y Gabriela – Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Rubyworks
Released 17th February 2006
There’s no better way to say it: they rock!
Mexicans Rodrigo Y Gabriela (Y stands for And) met in Mexico City while playing in a thrash metal band called "Tierra Acida". After seven years of playing around Mexico they felt they had done the band thing, the metal thing, and that they got nowhere, so they decided to move to Dublin, Irland in 1999. Where they could do their own thing and started to play in the streets and pubs of Dublin.
They got their brake when Damien Rice asked them support his shows in 2003, and soon after they released "Re-Foc", and a year later, "Live Manchester and Dublin," which where recorded during an extensive tour of the UK.
“Rodrigo Y Gabriela” was released in 2006 and went straight to the top of the Irish charts beating both the Arctic Monkeys & Johnny Cash to the number one spot.
Their sound incorporate elements of Latin jazz, funk, folk and metal, mixing it up to give us an unique album.
Check it out!! - Especially Gabriela's rhythm & percussion work, amazing.

"One of the best guitar albums in ages; one of the best discs this year" ~Billboard review
“Mexico's Rodrigo y Gabriela, the world's greatest flamenco-metal duo, blend their love for thrash metal with lightening-fast classical guitar on inventive original tunes and classics like 'Stairway to Heaven' and Metallica's 'Orion.'” ~ Spinner.com
“If you are one of those music fans that look at instrumental albums as dinner party fodder, you are in for a shock on Rodrigo & Gabriela's self-titled debut album. It is the kind of holy sh*t listening experience that would kill all conversation as your guests sit with mouths agape, plotting to steal the album when you are in the other room. It is a breathtaking album full of captivating sound created with just two acoustic guitars; so rich you wonder whether Rodrigo and Gabriela are actually octopi.” ~ Ign.com
